Nike+iPod not working? ?

I have the iPod touch 4g and I'm tryi g to use the Nike +iPod and it says to activate the sensor walk around, no matter how much I walk or run or move, nothing happens, I read something about "are you shoes compatible. What does that mean, I have running sneakers, they're asics though. Help thanks :)
